AITA for calling the cops on a woman who berated me and called me names because I was “racist”? Somnath Gandotra, April 28, 2026 I am reposting this with a different title because people kept saying it was clickbait, I genuinely didn’t mean for it to come off that way 🙁 And if it still does I have no idea how to word it otherwise, so apologies in advance. This is such a strange situation, and I’m hoping for clarification for if I’m the ahole or not. I (20F) work at a gas station (overnights) in a pretty good neighborhood. However in October of last year my coworker dealt with some pretty bad theft so we only allow 1 person at a time after midnight til 4 AM. When this incident occurred it was 5 past midnight. I have two black dudes walk into my store and I tell them that I can only have one person in the store at a time. One of them had walked away before I said it but the other dude was only buying a wrap so I let it go. About a minute or so later a black woman comes in (I learn shes the wrap dudes wife). She immediately comes in hot, calling me racist and a bitch. Being called a bitch doesn’t bother me but being called racist does. Nothing about the previous interaction was racially motivated by any means. It doesn’t matter what color your skin is I can only have one person in the store at a time. I try to explain this to her but she isn’t having it. She continued to raise her voice so I told her to leave and if she didn’t I’d call the cops. She obviously doesn’t leave so I grab my phone. She proceeds to grab her phone and started recording talking about how she has more followers on TikTok. I go to the back room and talk to the operator. The lady keeps talking but I didn’t hear anything else she said when I was on the phone. I hear the door chime while I’m still talking to the cops and I peek my head out and see she ended up leaving. I apologize to the operator because I felt bad and felt like I called for no good reason. The other black guy who came in originally comes up to the counter (I didn’t even realize he was still here). He asked if I was ok and I burst out into tears. I’m babbling to this dude telling him it’s the rules and I’m not racist. He essentially said he could see why they saw it that way but overall it wasn’t at all racist. I can also see how she could’ve taken it that way but I tried several times to explain it’s literally just the rules. The dude asks a couple more times if I’m sure I’m ok and I say yes and thank him and he goes on his way. I call my coworker and babble to him about the whole situation. He said that I did what was right in the moment. He even offered to come in to check on me (I love him so much he’s such a sweetheart. This is also the guy who dealt with the crazy theft I mentioned in the beginning). I tell him I’ll be ok and that was it. I really don’t think I was an ass in this situation but I don’t know. It genuinely was never a race thing ever. So let me know Reddit, AITA? Reddit
